Across a night dark sky
I look up
and see thousands
of lights
shining back to me.
So sharp, glowing
against the space
that I will never see.
An earthly bystander
sharing a glimpse
of the heavens.
How small it makes
me feel;
in the presence of
faraway giants.
As they appear a twinkling speck
so must I to them.
Spread across the sky
in stark relief
the lights of a thousand years;
far away and gone now,
they still shine for me.
I look up
and see thousands
of lights
shining back to me.
So sharp, glowing
against the space
that I will never see.
An earthly bystander
sharing a glimpse
of the heavens.
How small it makes
me feel;
in the presence of
faraway giants.
As they appear a twinkling speck
so must I to them.
Spread across the sky
in stark relief
the lights of a thousand years;
far away and gone now,
they still shine for me.
