Summertime ...
heat that wraps us in a wet hot blanket,
and leaves us longing for cool water.
Lazy days spent soaking in sunshine.
Light that dances like diamonds
with every wave and ripple on the water;
Sigh and roll over,
waiting for the moment
that calls us to jump in....
a SHOCK!
and then sweet relief...
gliding, floating to the top
watching the clouds above,
all sound muffled by the water.
A mermaid for a moment,
sweet relief from the heat.

I remember being a kid and the anticipation of that first jump into the community pool, knowing that water would be so cold, but wanting relief from the heat!
